Home

I'm back home! This whole journey has been life changing and amazing. Before I only knew what to do to help someone after a natural disaster. Now I know why they happen and how we can prepare. On my adventure i've also helped many people which is my biggest goal.
This was such an inspirational trip and I'm so happy I had the opportunity to go on it.
Well for the last time I guess... Well until next time of course haha

Japan disaster

http://porsche-mania.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Japan_Disaster_2011.jpg

The earthquake in japan occurred when the pacific plate thrusted under the north american plate.Japan is on the wet tip of the North american plate. The thrust fault which is a violent movement of the Pacific plate compressing under the North american plate forcing it upward. This caused displacement of a lot of ocean water which caused the tsunami. The energy came out of the epicenter and the waves got more severe as they neared land because of the more shallow water. This is how the devastating disaster struck. The death toll officially crossed 10,000 and more than 17,000 are missing. 300,000 are in temporary shelters. The recover is on its way with all the help from the donations and organizations. Im working their with doctors without borders to try and help as many people as I can in a we
ek. Well i got to get back to work but until next time.

Iceland

Iceland
Yay im here on the hekla volcano island. This divergent boundary island has a plethora of volcanoes. Hekla is the most active volcano in Iceland. It has had more than 20 eruptions since874. Because Iceland is in this divergent zone it has many volcanoes and also it has glaciers because there are mountains and it snows and thats what the name "the land of fire and ice" comes from. The volcano's height is 1,491 meters.

Haiti

The earth quake was on Jan,12 2010 at 4:53 p.m.quake in Haiti. It was the strongest one to hit the island in more than 200 years. The quake was a 7.0 and caused a lot of damage. The death toll reached the thousands. The earthquake happened at a fault that runs right through Haiti along the boundary between the Caribbean and north american plates. The movement is transform which means that they move side to side. After years the damage is still visible but slowly getting better. I am here to do my best to help the survivors recover and move on with their lives.

East African rift valley

Above is a picture of this

amazing rift valley in Eastern Africa. You may be wondering how a rift valley is formed.... Well guess what... today is your lucky day and i'm going to tell you. :)

The mantel rises and diverges that drag the continental crust apart. Then magma wells up in the crack pushing the crust further apart.

This is an amazing place to learn about science and visit. While here I stayed in a small village close by. I highly recommend this trip for anyone searching a great geographical landmark and a fantastic trip.

until next time

Cascades/Mount Rainier

http://images.yourdictionary.com/images/definitions/lg/cascade-range.jpg

Hey guys!

Look at this picture.... Beautiful right?

Unfortunately thats not what Mount Rainier looks like at the moment. After the eruption of the tallest mountain in the cascades panic has hit every where. Mount rainier is

14,410 feet tall! This eruption was the first volcanic activity for the mountain for about 1,000 years. This area is on a

convergent boundary. That means that the tectonic plates are moving towards one another. The collision that occurs can prod

uce earthquakes and volcanic activity.

This is picture shows how convergent boundaries work:

This eruption has caused floods, landslides, pyroclastic flows, lava flows and more. These hazards have destroyed the air but also effected the water quality and caused many health risk, but many charity organizations have put time and effort into helping the cities survive this massive eruption.

See you next time and remember to live love and help :)

Hi everyone

Hi guys,
This is my first blog ever so don't really know how to start this off but i guess i'll start with introducing myself...
My name is Renata Drucker and I am a doctor and a scientist on an adventure. For the next 8 weeks i'll be traveling to places where natural disasters occur(or can occur) to help people recover and study why the disasters happen. First I will be traveling not so far away from my own home (Seattle) to the cascades where you probably have heard about the devastating eruption of Mount Rainer which has caused a lot of damage, injuries and chaos. Then i'll be off to eastern Africa to act as a normal doctor and explore the volcanoes there. The rest is a surprise for now. Never know what might happen.
Well i've decided at the end of every post I'll remind you to live life, love people and the environment and help the world be a better place. Sounds sorta cheesy but true!
So i'll talk to you guys next time when I'm helping people in the cascades.
See ya for now
